“An apparently unconventional choice to award a mosaic work in the sculpture section. The idea of this 41-year-old born in Taranto was convincing for the plastic dimension of the work and the interplay between irony and cultured references. From Egon Schiele to comics and the most desecrating outcomes of neo-pop, scanned in flat, textured backgrounds in vivid colours”.

Jury motivation for the 2015 Art Prize

Orodè Deoro (Taranto, 1974) lives and works in Lecce.

He developed his distinctive ceramic mosaics technique in “Vincent City”, the eccentric house -museum in Guagnano, a small Italian town in the south of Italy, where he lived from 2000 to 2004 and, self-taught, transformed it into a surreal temple of mosaic madness.

In Vincent City, Orodè realized twenty works of medium and large sizes, permanently displayed on the external and internal walls.

In 2014, he was one of the leading artists exhibited at the Triennale Design Museum in Milan, where he spent a couple of years decorating a giant mosaic wall on the front of Fabio Novembre’s house.

Orodè won the “Premio Arte” for the sculpture section in 2015, the Enzo Fani National Prize and the Celeste Prize Online Vote in 2009.

In 2017, with the limited-edition “Light my fire” bathtub he began his cooperation with the British brand Victoria+Albert.

In 2018, he has been invited to perform at the Second Symposium of Contemporary Mosaics held at the Academy of Egypt in Rome, which acquired the mosaic sculpture he realized during his residence.

He taught techniques of mosaic at the Academy of Fine Arts in Lecce.
